Back to Week One

As you can tell there has been no running on this running blog for way to long. My last attempt to run 2 weeks ago didn't go so well, my IT Band on my left leg decided that it was just not going to cooperate.
But enough is enough and thanks to  Holiday Bootie Buster Challenge I've decided to go back to week one of the 13 week run/walk program

So today I ran... and it felt AMAZING. I really missed it, no I didn't miss the pain, but I missed how great I felt after I was done.
How accomplished I felt.

Week 1, Session1 (on treadmill)
5 minute warm up
Run for 1minute and walk for 2minutes  (repeat 12 times/36minutes)
8 minute cool down
5.00km (3.02miles) in 49:25minutes

Face of accomplishment!!

Funny thing my Left IT Band which has been the problem felt great! no pain whatsoever. HOWEVER my Right IT Band, not so much... about half way into session it started to bother me. Can I not get a break??
I'm back to Icing and foam roller, but glad to be running again.
The plan for now is to run 3 times a week and every other day do a Core Performance workout.
IT BAND PLEASE cooperate!!

Hope everyone had a great Weekend!
Happy Running!!

Welcome back to running! :-) Wondering if the right IT Band is due to compensating for the left side?? Glad to hear you're on the mend.

Have you had any ART on your 'bands'? It is painful treatment but really helped me as I have seriously tight IT bands which gives me grief with my overall stride.
Welcome back to running. :)

I know just what you mean. I sprained my ankle over the summer and couldnt run for over a month. I missed it so much...which is odd because a year ago you couldnt have paid me to run!

Great job!

That's just unfair, first the left IT band ... and now the right! Ridiculous! :)

Hey! I just stumbled on your blog from healthylivingblogs. I'm a beginner runner looking for a bit of advice. To preface this, I'm just starting to run to get into shape/train for my very first 5K. I'm following the training schedule posted on my blog (sinnerfollowingjesus.blogspot.com). I'm in week 2: walk 5 minutes, run/jog 2 minutes four times total = walk 20 minutes, run/jog 8 minutes overall.

So when I am running, two minutes feels like FOREVER! The first minute goes well but by the time I'm in the second minute, every step I take just makes me want to fall over and die. I end up staring at my watch just watching the seconds tick by as I run. I'm able to recover and feel better in the 5 minute walk in between the runs, though.

So my question: is this just part of building my endurance? Does every non-runner learning to run go through this? How can I feel better/not feel like dying every time?

Also, how can I learn to control my breathing? I am trying to breath through my nose and my mouth at the same time and use my diaphragm to breath - move my stomach, not my chest. But when I get tired my breath control goes out the window and I just end up gasping for air and panting.

Sigh, I feel like such a weenie! I must be really out of shape!
